Chirita lilacina

The text associated with this image in L’illustration Horticole disparages the notion that it is a Chirita (the name under which it was obtained) and notes correctly that it is more likely allied to genera like Gloxinia but that a definitive placement is not possible without further study, particularly of the fruit. The plant was found on the slopes of Chiriqui volcano in what is now Panama.

The World Checklist of Gesneriaceae notes that it is almost certainly a Monopyle, perhaps one of Monopyle maxonii, M. puberula, or M. macrocarpa, and that this published name (lilacina) would have publication priority. So, if it is identified as being one of those species, the species would have to be renamed to lilacina.
