Chirita lilacina

The text associated with this image in L’illustration Horticole disparages the notion that it is a Chirita (the name under which it was obtained) and notes correctly that it is more likely allied to genera like Gloxinia but that a definitive placement is not possible without further study, particularly of the fruit. The plant was found on the slopes of Chiriqui volcano in what is now Panama. It has recently (2020) been placed formally in Monopyle (Skog et al),under the name M. lilacina.
