Gesneria donkelaariana

This appears to be a very early Sinningia hybrid involving what were known at the time as Gesneria discolor and Gloxinia rubra. We now know these as Sinningia gigantifolia and Sinningia speciosa ‘Rubra’, respectively. It is undoubtedly one of the first hybrids involving the latter selection from the species, the source of the saturated red colors in the modern Siningia speciosa hybrids.

A later publication by Paxton (1858) under the name Gesneria donklarii appears to be the same cultivar.
