A number of Nematanthus have flowers dangling beneath the foliage on long pedicels. N. crassifolius and N. brasiliensis are other good examples, as is N. ‘Stoplight’, a hybrid of fritschii and longipes. Another example of this species illustrates just how long the pedicels can be, as does the photo above. However, there is some significant variation in this variable, as can be seen in this photo, and here.
