Chris Rose of the UK had an extensive Streptocarpus hybridizing program, often using little-known species in order to obtain novel results. Unfortunately, most of his hybrids are no longer in cultivation, although it’s interesting to see where he was going.

This photo illustrates seedlings of a cross of S. parviflorus with a selection from a white johannis x ‘Elsi’ cross. The parviflorus parent was grown from seed supplied by Martin Kunhardt of South Africa. The foreground shows a paler seedling, now named ‘Violet Showers’, and one in the background with darker flowers. Flower count is high, often with 10 or more per peduncle, and flower size is moderate, about 35mm in diameter.
