Hemiboea is an old world genus distributed in Asia including central and southern China, Taiwan, north Vietnam and the Ryukyu islands of Japan.
It grows in forests and forest margins on rocks, in wet places and rock crevices by streams and in other wet, shady areas of karst regions at a range of altitudes.
