Opithandra is a genus of about ten species native to China and Japan, typically at altitudes of 500 to 900 m.  It is known to tolerate quite cool temperatures, even below freezing, in its natural habitat.

Recent morphological and genetic studies have resulted in all species being transferred to Oreocharis. The GRW will reflect this new reality in due course.
